Julian Stanczak (1928-2017) was a Polish-born American painter and print maker. He was a central figure of the Op Art movement, as it was named after his first significant show Julian Stanczak : Optical Paintings (1964). His work was shown in multiple museum exhibitions, at the MoMA for The Responsive Eye (1965), as well as a major retrospective at the Cleveland Institute of Art (2001), and more recently at the Akron Art Museum, Ohio (2013).
